What to pitch

Send a concise proposal with a working title, the central question or idea, the category it fits and a short account of what the reader will understand by the end. We welcome explainers, comparisons, visual readings, histories and thoughtfully framed pieces about a particular room or domestic occasion.

What makes a strong proposal

A good pitch has a clear scope and an argument of its own. It explains why the subject is worth a reader's attention, avoids repeating familiar decorating formulas and can be supported without invented experience or unsupported claims. Tell us if the proposal has been published or sent elsewhere.

Proposals are sent through the Contact page. Choose the editorial option in the form and include your pitch in the message. Please send a proposal rather than a finished article unless we have agreed otherwise.
